Mother's Day Ideas

Mother's Day is coming up. Have you started thinking about what to buy dear old mom for her special day? What's that? You're just going to send flowers and a card? Bah. Anna Jarvis would not approve.

Jarvis was a community activist and Appalachian firebrand who successfully lobbied the US to establish a holiday devoted exclusively to honoring the hard working mothers - Mother's Day, as we still know and celebrate it. Though Jarvis was enormously successful, she became disillusioned with the holiday and increasingly disturbed as the celebration turned into an excuse to sell greeting cards, candy, flowers and other items. She was "known for scathing letters in which she would berate people who purchased greeting cards, saying they were too lazy to write personal letters "to the woman who has done more for you than anyone in the world.""

Well, when you put it that way...why not branch out this year and give your mother something a little more fun? Whimsy has an extensive selection of "small stuff" that will definitely add a twist to the usual Mother's Day brunch table. Here are a few things we're thinking about for our moms:

Polka Dot Pill Box - Sweetly retro with demure polka dots and fun round shape. This is not your grandmother's pill box. Buy one for yourself, too! $9.00

Lemonade Jar Soy Candle - Large, clean-burning natural candle with a yummy smell and prettier packaging. Check out all the scents on our website. $26.00

Pale Rose Magnolia Serving Bowl - A unique way to serve homemade goodies, display potpurri, or hold letters. Beautiful and delicate - just like your mother. $41.00

Drink Me Champagne Flutes - Toast your mother with these colorful, hand blown flutes. Sold as a set of 4. $60.00

Our large selection of greeting cards means you won't be caught without something to say. Gift wrapping is available, so leave the details up to us. Your mother would definitely approve.
